The Local Council of Bayan-Ulgii aimag and Ulaanbaatar Tourism Department successfully organized the “SPRING EAGLE FESTIVAL-2022” on March 12, 2022 at the Mongolia-Kuwait Nature Conservation Center near Ulaanbaatar, with the participation of 11 eagle hunters from Bayan-Ulgii and Tuv aimags.
Ambassadors and delegations from Germany, Turkey, Kuwait, France, Russia, Poland, the Republic of Korea, the United States, Japan, Kazakhstan, India and also Mongolian parliament members, Ministry of Nature, Environment and Tourism members are attended.
Mongolia is still preserve the old tradition of real eagle hunting. The eagle festival has been celebrated since 1999. The aim of the festival is to exhilarate eagle hunting tradition and custom of Kazakh people to pass the pristine culture to a younger generation.
Well dressed eagle hunters with decorated horse, calling eagle from distance, catching stuffed dead animal, live prey hunt and traditional game of Kazakh people, Kokpar- goatskin tug of war on horseback was fun. Traditional music and songs played and souvenirs were displayed.
UNESCO inscribed the practice of Eagle Hunting to its Representative List of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
