This year’s theme, “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,” highlights how technology, data, and AI can transform the way we travel.

Tourism connects people, cultures, and places, but it also has an impact on local communities and our planet. Tourism and travel is one of the world's biggest industries.

According to 2019 research, over 333 million people. That's about one in ten working people worldwide – were employed in tourism and travel. Mass tourism can put pressure on housing, local businesses, natural resources, and historic destinations. Travel also contributes to pollution and carbon emissions.

So, what can we do? Travel responsibly. Choose local businesses, respect communities and cultures, reduce waste, and be mindful of the places we visit.

Travel is more than simply visiting new places—it comes with a responsibility to the people and environments we encounter. As highlighted in The Last Tourist, we should be mindful of where we spend our money, support local businesses and communities, respect local cultures, and consider the environmental impact of our choices.

By making thoughtful decisions about where we stay, how we travel, and what we consume, we can help protect the places we love and contribute positively to the communities that welcome us.
