Every year in July 10th Mongolians in Deel festival used to organized at Sukhbaatar square, but this time the event was held virtually due to COVID-19.
This year is the 15th anniversary of the festival that was first organized in 2006 in Ulaanbaatar by the Mongolian Tourism Association and Mongol Costumes LLC. The festival organizers announced a month-long online dance competition titled ‘Mongolians in Deel Challenge’ in partnership with Dance Chance entertainment.
More than 5,000 people from the nine districts of Ulaanbaatar, 20 aimags, and foreign countries, Germany, South Korea, Japan, USA, and Sweden submitted over 500 entries to the competition, which was viewed by 624 thousand people online.
The youngest participant of the online competition was 5 years old, while the oldest participant was 73 years old.
‘Irmuun’ club of the Children’s Palace of Uvurkhangai aimag took the first place at the competition followed by children’s dance ensemble students from Zamyn-Uud soum of Dornogobi aimag and ‘Seven Musical Notes’ band from Ulaanbaatar’s Baganuur district. Special prizes went to ‘Khan Mongol’ equestrian circus group that participated from South Korea and M.Margad from Mandal soum of Selenge aimag.
Mongolians in Deel’ festival aims at promoting Mongolian culture and heritage, characteristics of the country’s national costume, Deel, ethnic costumes and accessories, and intangible and tangible folk heritage, and passing down the culture and traditions to the younger generation through a fashion show of traditional clothing.
