Chairman of the State Great Khural (Parliament) of Mongolia, Mr. Amarbaysgalan Dashzegve, held an official meeting with the Speaker of the Senate of Canada, the Honourable Raymonde Gagné.
At the outset of the meeting, Chairman Amarbaysgalan noted that the Comprehensive Partnership between Mongolia and Canada is deepening, with cooperation expanding into new areas. He emphasized that Mongolia’s 126-member parliament is actively pursuing a broad legislative reform agenda focused on fostering stable economic growth, promoting foreign investment, enhancing the legal framework, and advancing economic diversification.
The Chairman also highlighted Mongolia’s strong commitment to gender equality, pointing out that 32 women were elected during the 2024 parliamentary elections. He further noted that the recent adoption of a mixed electoral system has significantly contributed to broader multiparty representation in the State Great Khural.
Speaker Gagné commended Mongolia’s progress in electoral reform, particularly the introduction of the mixed system, which has led to improved gender balance and a more inclusive parliamentary composition.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on deepening cooperation in the mining and investment sectors. They agreed that expanding collaboration in these areas would serve to further strengthen bilateral relations and contribute to the long-term partnership between Mongolia and Canada.
