Mongolia and Kazakhstan discuss regular direct flights to strengthen ties

During his official visit to Kazakhstan, D. Amarbayasgalan, Speaker of the State Great Khural (Parliament) of Mongolia, held a high-level meeting with Maulen Ashimbayev, Chairman of the Senate of the Republic of Kazakhstan, to discuss the current state and future prospects of Mongolia–Kazakhstan relations.
The two parliamentary leaders exchanged views on strengthening the bilateral cooperation framework, particularly focusing on enhancing the role of parliamentary diplomacy in deepening political, economic, and cultural ties.
Strengthening Parliamentary Dialogue
Chairman Ashimbayev introduced members of the Kazakh–Mongolian parliamentary friendship group, emphasizing their commitment to revitalizing inter-parliamentary cooperation. He noted that both nations share a rich historical and cultural heritage, which provides a strong foundation for closer collaboration at the legislative level.
In response, Speaker Amarbayasgalan expressed appreciation for the consistent high-level exchanges between the two countries and highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in building trust and expanding cooperation. He noted that regular reciprocal visits and dialogue have become a pillar of Mongolia–Kazakhstan relations.
Expanding Cooperation in Trade, Infrastructure, and Education
Both parties agreed to intensify joint efforts to:
Boost trade and economic ties, including facilitating greater market access and business partnerships.
Expand major joint projects in infrastructure and investment.
Strengthen cooperation in science, education, and innovation, including academic exchanges and research collaboration.
Connectivity and Regional Integration
A significant portion of the discussions was devoted to improving regional connectivity, particularly in transport and logistics. The two sides discussed:
Finding solutions to existing barriers in road transportation.
Creating new overland trade routes between the two countries.
Increasing the frequency of direct flights to foster greater people-to-people and business exchange.
These measures are expected to contribute not only to bilateral relations but also to regional economic integration across Central Asia and Northeast Asia.
Visit Highlights
Following the formal meeting, the Mongolian delegation was given a tour of the Senate Palace, where they gained insights into the structure and functioning of Kazakhstan’s upper house of parliament.
The delegation from Mongolia includes members of the Mongolia–Kazakhstan parliamentary group, representing various political parties and sectors, with a shared commitment to advancing bilateral ties across all areas of mutual interest.
