JATA’s 3 Strategic Themes for 2025. At this year’s Tourism Expo, JATA emphasized three key pillars to shape the future of Japanese tourism:

Decentralization of Inbound Tourism-Encouraging travelers to explore regions beyond Tokyo and Osaka, supporting rural economies, and spreading tourism benefits more evenly across Japan.

Support for the Hokuriku Region-Boosting tourism in areas affected by the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake, helping communities recover through visitor engagement.

Expansion of International Connectivity-Enhancing Chubu Centrair International Airport as a major international hub, positioning the Chubu region as a vital gateway for global travelers.

Coinciding with the expo was World Tourism Day, celebrated every year on September 27 since 1980. This year’s theme highlights tourism’s potential as a powerful agent of positive change but reminds us that true transformation requires: Good governance, Strategic planning, Measurable outcomes, Long-term sustainability. “As we celebrate tourism’s capacity to connect cultures and create opportunities, we must also ensure that growth goes hand in hand with sustainability.”

Regional Discovery Through FAM Trips

To promote local destinations, the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) organized FAM (familiarization) trips for 250 travel and MICE agents, from Asia, Europe, and North America, visiting 12 curated routes across Chubu and Hokuriku. These immersive trips offered agents firsthand experiences of the region’s unique culture, cuisine, and attractions, fostering stronger international partnerships.

Theme of the Year: “Travel for Discovery and New Encounters”

The official theme of Tourism Expo Japan 2025 is:

“Travel for Discovery and New Encounters”

This theme reflects a national strategy to revitalize regional areas, foster sustainable tourism development, and deepen cultural understanding between Japan and the world.

JATA Travel Award 2025: Honoring Nokyo Tourist Corporation

This year’s JATA Travel Award in the Inbound Travel category went to Nokyo Tourist Corporation for its outstanding tour program: “A Journey to Discover Japanese Agriculture and Culture in the Land of the Rising Sun.”

This award-winning tour included:

Farm exchanges and rural hospitality, Visits to GIAHS (Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems) sites, Stays at traditional hot springs, Deep cultural immersion far beyond conventional sightseeing

This award celebrates the power of tourism to connect travelers with authentic, local experiences while supporting regional communities.

As Tourism Expo Japan 2025 concludes, Jamo Grand remains committed to building bridges between cultures, championing sustainable tourism, and supporting Japan's regional revitalization efforts. The company looks forward to continued collaboration with global partners and the Japanese travel industry.
