The exhibition "ON THE MOVE" will continue until January 14, 2023, at the National Museum of Qatar.




This exhibition, which is held during FIFA World Cup, aims to present the nomadic lifestyle, social economy, and traditional renewal of Arabs, sub-Saharan nomads, and Mongolians of Central Asia, who are born in three different geographical zones, carrying the cultural heritage of migration in human history.


The exhibition reflects the nomadic culture and heritage of the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia, with exhibits from the National Museum of Qatar, the Lusail Museum, the National Library of Qatar, collections from other Qatari museums, the National Museum of Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar, the Mongolian Art Gallery, and the Musee Quai in Paris. It consists of a collection of more than 400 exhibits from international museums such as Branly and the Wein Welt Museum in Vienna.




The purpose of this exhibition is to study the life, history, and culture of the nomadic people through archeological finds, paintings, oral history sources, archival records, and modern photographs, and bring them into academic circulation. The work was led by Professor Lila Abu-Lugo of the Department of Anthropology at Columbia University, and the Qatar display was presented by Tania Al Majid, Deputy Curator of Social History and Ethnology at the Qatar National Museum, Faisal Al Naimi, Director of Archeology at the Qatar Museum, and Dr. Haya Al Naimi, Director of Curatorial Affairs at the Qatar National Museum. Tani, Dr. Anja Fischer, Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Vienna, and Dr. Elisabeth Turk, Department of Social Anthropology, University of Cambridge.





On behalf of Mongolia, State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture S. Oyunbileg, Head of the Cultural Heritage Policy and Coordination Department B. Davaatseren, Director of the National Museum of Mongolia L. Jargal, and Director of the Mongolian Art Gallery B. Sarantuya participated in the opening ceremony of the exhibition.




Also, the director of the Qatar National Museum, Mrs. Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, opened the exhibition and expressed her gratitude for participating in the exhibition and bringing the Mongolian cultural heritage to the public in the National Museum of Qatar.
