Happy lunar new year: The year of Tiger

February 2nd, 2022 is the first day of the lunar new year in Mongolia this year. Also known as the Spring Festival or Lunar New Year, the festival marking the advent of spring is widely celebrated. The Lunar New Year doesn't fall on the same date each year and is observed as per the cycles of the moon. It usually falls between January 20 to February 21 each year as per the Gregorian calendar. Each year is associated with one of the 12 zodiac animals - rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. The year 2022 is the year of the tiger. The Tiger is known to be the king of all beasts and is seated third in the Chinese zodiac order of animals. If you were born in 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, or 2010, you are a Tiger. Each animal year is further associated with one of five elements — wood, fire, earth, metal, or water. So more precisely, 2022 is the year of the water tiger. This year Mongolian government is not banned public celebrations but is advised to celebrate in the family. Families traditionally gather during this time to share meals, while all the guests are often given presents. The holiday that's celebrated by almost two billion people across the world.
